The proposal assignment is based on your topic for the research report due at the end of the class. Since you will not be able to conduct a long research project in the six-week span of time for this class, you need not complete an extensive proposal for your final research project.
Requirements
Deadline: Due Friday, 5/27/11. All assignments are due by 11:55 p.m. PDT on the assigned due date.
Length: The finished proposal should be 3-4 typed, single-spaced pages in length, although you can make your proposal longer if necessary.
Format: This proposal should be in the form of a memo addressed to me, and the parts of the proposal can be placed under subheadings.
Note: You do NOT have to have a letter of transmittal, summary, and so forth, since this is a less formal memo-style proposal. The statement of the problem, objectives, review of literature, and the rest can all be subheadings in your memo:
Your research project can address either a general audience (implied audience: the professor and the class) or a specialized audience in your field. The proposal should include this information as well as the other components listed in the basic format described on p. 169.
Group work option. Even if you are working collaboratively on the final project for the class, you will still need to turn in an individual proposal. You should include in the Methods section the qualifications of those working with you.
