2001 Early Regional Trial

Regional trials are conducted throughout the western region of the United States, including Washington. A coordinating committee selects entries for both the early and late season trials. The 2001 early trial had 19 entries this year, including the two Norkotah strains from Texas (TXNS102 and TXNS296) that were undergoing their third year of evaluations.

Of the 19 entries grown this season, A9014-2, AC91014-2 and ATX9202-3Ru produced light uniform fries with average Photovolt readings above 40. Five other entries, A8893-1, A9045-7, AC87079-3, TXNS102 and TXNS296, produced unacceptable differences between Photovolt readings of the stem and bud ends of fries. Both Norkotah strains, as well as Norkotah, produced relatively dark fries with a USDA rating of 2, as did A9045-7 and AC87079-3.
