Gary S. Collins

Present Position
Professor of Physics and Astronomy

Education
Bachelor of Arts, Physics, Rutgers College
Doctor of Philosophy, Physics, Rutgers University

Research Interests
Application of hyperfine interaction methods using radioactive probes, in particular perturbed angular correlation of gamma rays (PAC) to study the local structure and properties of solids:

  • Point defects and defect interactions
  • Lattice location of dilute solutes in compounds
  • Diffusion measured by jump frequencies of probe atoms

This group is currently the only one in the US using PAC to study solids. More information and downloads of publications can be found at http://defects.physics.wsu.edu

Related Courses Taught
Solid-state physics; Seminars in solid-state spectroscopies and in defects in solids
