ABOUT US

The primary mission of LCIB is to improve rural livelihoods on a sustainable basis through a sound and integrated community-based approach. This landcare approach, which originated in Australia in the early 1980's, incorporates land management and ecosystem protection, while involving sustained economic use of natural resources.

LCIB uses a model successfully applied by Washington State University through Total LandCare (TLC), an NGO based in Malawi, Tanzania, and Mozambique. Built on this model, LCIB values and nurtures partnerships to promote adoption of sound natural resource technologies that meet people's needs. It uses an integrated approach to empower communities to take responsibility for improving their livelihoods while sustaining and improving the natural resource base.
