Abstract
"Who's
Mixed Up?: A Study on Biracial / Multiracial Identity"
My
research is concerned with the formation of identity for Biracial
and Multiracial people. I will focus on how my participants
came to form their identity and how they perceive their acceptance
into society. Studying the interaction between Biracial /
Multiracial people, through their choice of identity, and society,
through their perceptions and acceptance of Biracial / Multiracial
people will help rethink the construction of race and ethnicity.
This is important politically and socially. My Biracial /
Multiracial participants” experiences are essential in forming a
complete story of how a person with two or more racial identities
came to understand themselves and others. These experiences
will help researchers rethink race and ethnicity and the formation
of identities.
Biography
On
March 10, 1978, I was born in Mt. Home, ID. I moved to Florida
when I was three years old and was raised there for most of
my life. The summer before my sixth grade year my family moved
to Spokane, WA. We have been there ever since. My father was
in the Air Force and that is why we lived in different locations.
My father is from Jacksonville, Alabama and my mother is from
Manila, Philippines. I
came to WSU, because a recruiter name Milton Lang recruited me through
the Future Teachers of Color Program. I have learned from
my experiences here. I will graduate in May 2001. My
major is English Education and Minor is Comparative American Cultures.
In
the future, I hope to make an impact on young students lives within
the high school system through teaching, advising, or administrative
work. I hope to learn to speak Tagalog and learn to drive
a car.

is currently a Master's student in American Studies at Washington
