Selena Castro
Sociology: Personnel and Human Relations
scastro@wsu.edu

Research Interests

My research interests include how attitudes, behaviors, and conformity affect both interpersonal relationships as well as group interaction among ethnic minorities.  I would like to look specifically at gender issues with regard to women in the field of engineering.

Through the McNair Achievement Program I will be working with a faculty mentor to conduct research this year.  In the spring of 2002 I will develop a proposal and in the summer of 2002 I will be collecting and analyzing data.  I have plans to present my work at the 3rd annual Washington State University McNair Summer Research Symposium on August 2, 2002.

Biography

I am a senior from Vancouver, WA majoring in Sociology.  I have a family, am currently a member and past vice president of the Sociology Club, and serve as the secretary for AWANA.  I am also involved in many other organizations on and off campus.

Selena is currently a Master's student in Communication at Washington State University. Her mentor, Dr. Patty Sias has been instrumental in Selena's pursuit of graduate education.
