The Role of the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Creation of "Guest Worker" Programs in the Yakima Valley.

Biography

The Yakima Valley is home to the largest Chicano(a)/Latino(a) communities in the state of Washington, and my home town.  I grew up as the eldest daughter of a migrant farm worker family, who valued education as a the tool to liberation.  I recall working as a child in the cherrie orchards during the summer weeks, a time of fun in the sun for most, and drempt of graduating from high school.  These memories have carried me through everyday of my undergraduate career, and continue to challenge my ability to envision a doctoral degree.

Alma earned a Master's degree in American Studies from Washington State University and is currently attending law school at Arizona State University.
