HOW TO SET UP YOUR WSUNIX WEBSPACE

Please create your webspace BEFORE you attend the classes on Web Page Development, before WEEK 05.

You must first create a unix account by going to www.it.wsu.edu and clicking on the network access link. (You may already have a wsunix account, created when you first set up your WSU network ID.  If so, you have a password that contains both letters and numbers.  If you forgot that password contact the HELPDESK.)

Then login to your UNIX account by using a Mozilla browser-Firefox (type into URL window): telnet://wsunix.wsu.edu  OR  go to the Start menu, RUN, TELNET wsunix.wsu.edu, click OK.

After you have logged in, (BE CAREFUL: If you are asked for your backspace key, make sure you hit "backspace" first) at the prompt, type new_www. This will then enable your webspace for your website. It will also give you your URL. You have approximately 50mb of space.

The FTP address you will post to is wsunix.wsu.edu, using the login and password you created for the UNIX account.

You will then need to upload files to the public_html folder located in your account.

The browser URL to view your index page is: www.wsu.edu/~yourID  (example: Joey’s index page is:  www.wsu.edu/~reagan).
