Title: Paradigms for Biocomplexity: An Introduction to the Symposium and to the "Village Ecodynamics" Project.

Timothy A. Kohler

Abstract:

In this paper I characterize families of approaches to studying
biocomplexity, and offer the three projects presented in this symposium as examples.
Following a more detailed introduction to the “Village” project, which seeks to model the
interaction between Puebloan societies, cultures, and ecosystems in the Central Mesa
Verde region between A.D. 600 and 1300, I suggest some themes that may unite the
study of biocomplexity across differing sociopolitical scales.
