Who will be taking care of my son/daughter while at the program?
  • There are four (4) first year medical students who have been selected to be the Resident Advisors for the U-DOC Program
  • The Resident Advisors are selected and supervised by the U-DOC director and program staff
  • At all times there will be at least 2 Resident Advisors on duty
  • Resident Advisors live with the students in the University of Idaho dorms
  • Students are accompanied to and from classes and activities by these Resident Advisors
  • The Resident Advisors will know where your child is at all times
How will I reach my son/daughter while they are at the program?
  • Each of the counselors will have a telephone in their room. Students are given telephone hours to call home and talk with friends
  • You will be provided with these telephone numbers as well as the WWAMI office phone number
  • Resident Advisors also carry a pager and cell phone with them at all times in case of an emergency
  • Mail is delivered to the students Monday - Friday if you would like to send letters
  • Students also have regular access to email

Will I be able to visit my son/daughter during the program?

  • Yes, families are able to visit during the program. All visitors must check in with a Resident Advisor upon arrival. If you plan to leave the dorms, it is required that you tell the Resident Advisors when the student will return.
Can my child leave during the program to come home or for a special event?
  • Students are able to leave for family emergencies during the program with written consent from a parent or legal guardian. Students must check out with a Resident Advisor before leaving the program.
Can my child drive his/her car to the program?
  • Students are able to drive their cars to the program.  Once the students arrive, the keys to the car are handed over to the Program Coordinator.
  • Students are not allowed to use their cars while they are at the program unless they are going home and have written consent from a parent or legal guardian

Do the students have a curfew?

  • Students are given curfews by their Resident Advisors and are required to abide by this rule
  • All students are given a list of rules and regulations that they sign and are expected to follow
How do you go about the health care, illness and medications for my child?
  • Before the student arrives at the program parents are asked to fill out an Emergency Information and Release form. This gives the program medical release to send your student to the hospital in case of an emergency.
  • If a student becomes ill (i.e. cold or flu) your child will be taken to the doctor for a check up and the necessary precautions will be taken.
  • If your child is on medications, the medications will be kept under the control of the Resident Advisors. We ask that you notify the program of any medications before the student comes.
  • In case of a medical emergency or illness, parents will be notified immediately. When possible, notification will occur prior to any treatment
What if students are found using controlled/illegal substances or alcohol?
  • Any use of controlled/illegal substances or alcohol will lead to immediate dismissal of a U-DOC participant.
  • This is a pre-health science program. We emphasize health and wellness. Smoking will not be allowed during the program.
