BACKGROUND
Born in Walla Walla, Washington and raised in Richland,
Washington and Milton-Freewater, Oregon. During high school participated in Boy's State,
athletics, band, honor society, varsity club, inter-club council. Received American Legion
God and Country Award, John Phillip Sousa Band Award, and Oregon Scholar Award. Graduated
with high honors. During college was active in the honors and experimental college
program, organized and directed the student outdoor program, member of activities board,
volunteer in the new student orientation program, helped establish campus FM radio
station, assistant editor of campus literary magazine, organized several elective credit
courses. Graduated summa cum laude in the Honors Program. During graduate school
activities included teaching assistant in Resource Recreation Management Dept., Counselor
for summer orientation and advising program, and instructor for summer 4H conference.
Personal interests include biking, mountaineering, backpacking, winter camping,
backcountry skiing, reading, and natural resource management.
