NASPA'S Strategic Plan

As promised in the December/January issue of the NASPA Forum, below is NASPA's revised strategic plan.

MISSION STATEMENT

NASPA serves student affairs administrators who bring an institutional perspective to work with students in higher education. NASPA's constituencies are senior student affairs officers/administrators, student affairs personnel at all levels, faculty, and other professionals who are actively involved in facilitating student learning in the higher education setting. NASPA promotes leadership in higher education, advocacy for students, and professional development opportunities.

GOALS

To provide professional development to our members through the dissemination of high quality information and exemplary models of practice.

Strategic Objectives:

  • To feature sessions at each NASPA national conference which provide management trends, data, skill development, and "best practice" models for the delivery of student affairs services.
  • To utilize NASPA publications as vehicles for providing benchmark data, trend analysis, and exemplary models of practice which are associated with the management and administration of student affairs.
  • To utilize emerging technology applications to disseminate essential management leadership information and models.
  • To design and offer leadership development opportunities that emphasize institutional perspectives and focus on the development of campus and association leaders.

To provide leadership in higher education through policy development and advocacy for students on important national issues.

Strategic Objectives:

  • To increase NASPA's visibility, participation and influence on national educational policy issues.
  • To influence educational policy development at national, state and institutional levels through research and information services.
  • To support students' needs through advocacy efforts at local, state and national levels.

To promote pluralism, diversity, and internationalism in NASPA and the profession.

Strategic Objectives:

  • To encourage campus environments which promote civil discourse, respect, and appreciation of difference; freedom of expression; and opportunities for individual and community development.
  • To exercise a leadership role regarding the benefits and accomplishments of affirmative action.
  • To increase pluralism and diversity within the membership and leadership within NASPA and the profession.
  • To facilitate greater international dialogue and exchange among NASPA and student affairs professionals.

To provide leadership for promoting, assessing, and supporting student learning and successful educational outcomes.

Strategic Objectives:

  • To promote more active collaboration between academic affairs and student affairs.
  • To encourage research and information exchange regarding the impact of student affairs work on positive educational outcomes.
  • To serve as a resource in designing effective outcomes assessment strategies.
  • To prepare student affairs professionals and academic administrators to support central educational mission of student learning.
  • To promote the development of a campus climate that facilitates student learning.

To maintain, evaluate, and develop a high quality association infrastructure to meet current needs and anticipate future trends.

Strategic Objectives:

  • To assess and implement the strategic techniques, information technology, and staffing necessary for successful association leadership in student affairs and higher education.
  • To provide a solid and sufficient resource base to achieve association goals.
  • To provide research and information to support the association's operation and achievement of its goals.
  • To support and develop regions, divisions, and networks to achieve the association's goals and promote the association's growth.
