Job Description and Responsibilities:

Each regional network chair is appointed to a two-year term by the regional vice president.  Appointments are staggered so that all regional chairs are not new each year.  The regional network chair directs the network activities for the region and reports to the regional vice president and the national network chair.  They will work closely with the regional network coordinator who provides orientation training and serves as an ongoing resource to the chairs.  There are a total of twelve regional chairs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1.  Attending the regional conference each year of appointment and promoting a network leadership presence at the regional conference.

2.  Stimulating program submissions to the regional conference.   Presenting programs themselves and/or with region V counterpart and/or secure others in the network to submit programs.

3.  Conducting a network activity at the regional conference to gather network members for social and business purposes.

4.  Communicating regularly with national network chair (and state/province representatives if applicable).

5.  Meeting and communicating with the regional vice president and network coordinator regularly.

6.  Helping recruit and retain members for NASPA and the network.

7. Developing goals for the regional network based on their own vision, research, regional and national network goals.

8.  Reporting on network activity for publication in the regional newsletter and the national network newsletter if applicable.

9.  Submitting a yearly summary and a report after the regional meeting to the national network chair and regional vice president.

10.  Serving as a member of the Region V Advisory Board.  This includes:

  • Participating in the 1999 and 2000 summary advisory board retreats.
  • Participating in the 1999 and 2000 fall advisory board meetings held just prior to the start of the western regional conference.
  • Setting and submitting annual goals and summary evaluative reports.
  • Providing goal updates in writing (electronic, fax or snail mail) on a periodic basis; a schedule will be established to coincide with the national advisory board update deadlines and meetings.
