WSU Spokane Announces 1999 Staff Excellence Award

Spokane, Wash. -- Melody Matthews, administrative assistant at the Interdisciplinary Design Institute of Washington State University Spokane, has been selected as the 1999 WSU Spokane Employee Excellence Award winner.

Matthews, who joined WSU Spokane in 1997 as a secretary lead, previously worked for Eastern Washington University as a library specialist. She holds a bachelor's degree in general studies/communications from EWU. She is an active volunteer in the community, serving on the EWU Friends of the Library Executive Board and as a Girl Scout troop leader, among other activities.

"Melody's organizational talents benefit not only the programs she supports, but the entire campus community. She contributes significantly to the success of our events with her leadership and her attention to detail," said campus executive officer and dean William Gray.

The Employee Excellence Award is sponsored by PEMCO Insurance and carries a $1,000 award. Recipients are nominated by co-workers and are chosen for their quality of work, contribution to work environment and contributions to the larger community.
