PRESIDENT SMITH TO RESUME BUSY SCHEDULE GRADUALLY
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University President Samuel H. Smith expects to be back at work next week in time for the Board of Regents meeting May 7 and the university's 103rd commencement May 8. Following graduation, he will gradually resume his typically busy schedule.
Smith had successful prostate cancer surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center on March 31 and has been recuperating since then.
"President Smith has been doing work by telephone and e-mail over the past 10 days and is eager to get back," said Sally Savage, the president's chief of staff. "He has been particularly interested in following the Legislative session that concluded over the past weekend with excellent operating and capital budgets for WSU."
When he is back on campus, the president is going to return to his normal schedule gradually to make sure his recovery continues on track, Savage said. He will be handling priority administrative responsibilities, but will be doing fewer public events and less travel during the next few weeks.
