WSU President Smith Honored Twice by State Legislature

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Washington State University President Samuel H. Smith has been honored twice this month by the state Legislature.

Smith, who retires this summer after 15 years leading WSU, was saluted Feb. 16 by the Senate and Feb. 24 by the House of Representatives with special resolutions honoring his contributions to WSU and the state.

Senate Resolution 8726 lauds Smith for his "dedicated service and commitment." It commends his "hard work and leadership," which has transformed WSU from a single campus in Pullman to a "nationally recognized, statewide university."

House Resolution 4744 says Smith has shown the "highest level of excellence" as WSU’s president. The resolution commends his "outstanding contributions to (WSU and its) many students, faculty and staff whose lives have been impacted by his commitment … to the people of the state of Washington."
