Graphics Tools and Utilities
IT UNIX Systems

There are a variety of graphics tools available for use in the UNIX environment. Some of these tools may have application in the creation of WWW pages.

Applications and Libraries for Graphics Formats

  • hdf - multi-object file format for transfer of data.
  • ImageMagick - display and interactive manipulation of images for  X
  • jbig - Highly effective lossless compression algorithm for bi-level images
  • gd - library for creating GIF files usable on the web.
  • giftrans - transform gif from gif87 to gif89, making one color transparent.
  • jpeg - Lossless image compression format.
  • mapedit - a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor for imagemap files
  • mpeg - Multimedia image sequence format.
  • pbm - portable bitmap format.
  • pict - Pict image format.
  • png - Png image format.
  • radiance - Radiance image format.
  • rle - Rle image format.
  • tiff - Tag Image File format.
  • webgif - a command line gif manipulation utility which can set transparency.
  • xpm (sxpm) - Show or convert an XPM (X PixMap) file.
  • zlib - Image compression format.
