Technology
Access
The
ATC will develop, support, and facilitate a technology access project
that recognizes:
- A
single point of contact where students, faculty and staff can
receive assistance.
- A
process for establishing access, assessment, evaluation, and accommodation.
- The
development of AT proposals and recommendations to the Commission
and university administration.
The
WSU Technology Access Project is guided by the following principles:
- Facilities
and technology systems at Washington State University are to be
designed to accommodate people with the widest range of abilities
and disabilities.
- Individuals
using campus facilities and technology systems may have learning
disabilities; visual, speech, hearing, mobility impairments and
other disabilities that must be accommodated.
- Adaptive
equipment is provided to accommodate the majority of disabilities,
and procedures have been developed to meet special requests in
a timely and efficient manner.
- Accessibility
at Washington State University is an ongoing commitment, and it
is through the cooperative effort of the entire campus community
that we will reach the goal of universal access.
The
Technology Access Project is a campus resource for meeting the technology
access needs of students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.
Access
Project Services
Individualized
evaluations are conducted (by DRC, HRS, St Lukes, Voc. Rehab., etc.)
to identify those adaptive products and technologies that will best
facilitate the needs of individuals with disabilities. Individualized
training can be provided to maximize the use of the recommended
accommodations.
Campus
Resources
WSU
has a variety of resources for those interested in learning more
about adaptive technology. Training can be provided to faculty,
staff, and students on the issues and benefits of adaptive technology.
