Information on the Council for the Advancement of Women



Charge to the Council:
  1. Analyze barriers to the advancement of women:
    • to department chair and other leadership positions
    • from Associate to Full Professor
    • to senior positions within the administrative and professional staff
    • to participation in physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering
  2. Develop and implement strategies to advance women in those areas rapidly and in the short-term
  3. Complete activities during the 2004-2005 academic year (Note: The Council plans to submit its recommendations in December 2004)

Groups that have been consulted:  Members of the Council have met with representatives of AFW and the Commission on the Status of Women.  The Council is generating ideas for implementation.  AFW has provided the following input to the Council:

  • Pipeline and search committee training
  • Advancing scholarship
 
The Council submitted a report on activities and recommendations to the President
on April 29, 2004.  They have made a pdf version of thre report available to us.
