AFW Membership Information

AFW membership is open to all tenured, non-tenured, and retired WSU faculty who support the purpose of AFW. The categories of faculty at WSU are: Academic, Extension, Library, and Student Affairs.  Everyone who supports the purpose of AFW is encouraged to join.

Our Mission:

• To provide a means for faculty women to share mutual interests, activities, and concerns, particularly as they relate to the academic responsibilities of teaching, research, and service at WSU.

• To provide a structure through which issues that impact faculty women, as an academic group, are considered and addressed, particularly by providing input and recommendations to bodies including the University Administration, the Commission on the Status of Women, the WSU Faculty Senate, and university committees.

• To further the professional growth of faculty women through professional programs, state and national speakers, and consultants.

What we do:

Most AFW activities occur during our monthly meetings. The meetings are informal, often held in a member's home.  At monthly meetings, AFW members interact with key administrators, provide input on issues and initiatives of concern, and, most importantly, build a support network. We honor outstanding members of the WSU women's community through the Samuel H. Smith Leadership Award .  We honor outstanding WSU women doctoral and master's candidates through the Harriett B. Rigas and Founders Awards.  We assist women faculty with negotiating the waters at WSU.   We advance the role of women, provide information, and support women faculty negotiating the waters at WSU.  We make friends that support us in our work, professions, and personal lives.

How you can become involved:

Join us!  Come to a meeting.  Enjoy the company and support of your women colleagues.  Share your ideas at meetings on on our listserv (AFW_MemberTalk).  Get informed.  Meet leaders from across the campus.  Help academic women succeed.  Serve on committees.  Become a officers.
