Professors James Harsh and Markus Flury, of the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, study the mechanisms that allow the radioactive contaminant cesium-137 to move through the ground under the tanks at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site. They are exploring possible ways to stop such contamination.
