Men’s Recruitment Information
Men’s recruitment is divided into three parts: summer recruitment, Fraternity Recruitment, and year-round recruitment.
Both summer and year-round recruitment are run by the individual chapters, with summer recruitment fairs hosted by the Interfraternity Council (IFC). To get involved in summer or year-round recruitment, please e-mail the fraternities you are interested in to add yourself to their contact lists. Most fraternities have summer and year-round recruitment and social events to which you may be invited to meet and get to know the members of that fraternity.
Men’s Recruitment Schedule beginning in August
Fraternity Recruitment is open to all men. It is a two-and-a-half week process at the very beginning of the semester during which the fraternities on campus will be hosting events, open to any student wishing to attend. In addition to these open events, fraternities will host invite-only recruitment events to get to know men they are interested in bidding. Wednesday and Thursday of the first week of classes will be house tour days for Fraternity Informal Recruitment. Interested men can sign up for house tour day on campus or online during the first week of classes.
During these days of house tours, recruitment counselors (RCs) will take groups to each of the fraternities where interested men can meet members of each chapter, as well as get a tour of their facility. At the end of the recruitment period, there will be a Greek-wide bid day capped off with a campus Greek tradition, “the run,” where every new member from summer and men’s fall recruitment runs from a pre-designated location to their new chapter to celebrate with their new brothers. Click through the links below to see events scheduled for each day.
Fraternity recruitment is a varied process that is year-round. It has never been easier to get involved in fraternities and we encourage all incoming men to take the time to check out our diverse Greek community and get to meet some quality men. Greek life is a once in a lifetime, for a lifetime, opportunity.
Questions to Ask During Recruitment
Whether you choose to go to a summer recruitment event (men only) or wait until fall recruitment, there are several things you should find out before joining a particular chapter, such as:
1. What is your chapter GPA? New member class average?
2. Is there a GPA requirement which I must meet in order to be initiated? If so, what is the requirement?
3. What is the total chapter membership?
4. How many members live in the chapter house?
5. What are the sleeping arrangements? How many people occupy each room? Is there a sleeping porch?
6. How much should I plan to pay for my house bill? Are there payment plans? What is included in my bill?
7. Does your chapter have a Live-In Advisor or House Director?
8. How many meals are served per week? At what times are these meals served?
9. Are there other people in the chapter with my major or a similar major?
10. What academic resources and programming does your chapter offer? Do you have quiet areas and/or hours? Do you have a library and/or computer room?
11. How long after I join your chapter will I be initiated? What are all of the time commitments that are required during my new member program?
12. Are your members involved in student government or other student organizations and activities? If so, what are some of the organizations? Will I be able to get involved?
13. What responsibilities do new members and initiates have?
14. What does your chapter do for community service? What can I do to help?
What is summer recruitment?
Both men and women should attend the summer recruitment fairs in Seattle and Spokane. These fairs are a great opportunity to have questions answered for both students and parents in a comfortable setting. Men will receive information and talk to recruitment chairmen from many fraternities during the summer. Visit as many of the summer recruitment functions as you can. Please consider carefully what you are signing during the summer. Above all, enjoy yourself! New members must complete the online registration forms and then complete the steps for summer signing. Your recruitment contact can guide you through the process.
