Leadership and Involvement
The Greek community at WSU is known for producing many student leaders in various organizations, clubs, and the Associated Students of Washington State University (ASWSU).
Even the newest members in each chapter have the opportunity to assume duties that teach valuable skills and provide growth as leaders. Each chapter is responsible for its own governing, electing officers, and all are supported by the Greek community’s Interfraternity, Panhellenic, National Pan-Hellenic, and United Greek councils.
Chapters encourage their members to be active in leadership and involvement opportunities on campus as well as in the community. By simply becoming a member of the Greek community, one can’t help but become involved. Greek students at WSU are involved in numerous campus and community groups including:
• Mom’s Weekend planning committee
• Dad’s Weekend planning committee
• Greek honor societies
• Intercollegiate athletics
• Student spirit squad
• ROTC
• New student orientation
• Athletic recruiting organizations
• YMCA “buddy” program
• Student Ambassadors
• Religious fellowship groups
• Intramural sports
• Multicultural organizations
• Greek Week and Homecoming planning committees
• Student publications
• Pullman parks and recreation
• Student Alumni Connection
• Up Til Dawn
Alumni and Career Networking
The fraternity and sorority experience is not limited to college years…it continues throughout life. The relationships with alumni provide many opportunities for career networking and mentoring not only with your initial job search but also throughout your career. Alumni interaction is fostered through events such as Homecoming, football game tailgates, and chapter anniversaries. These types of events can help put you in contact with men and women in similar career paths, and open doors for undergraduates as well as graduates of WSU.
Greek alumni also play a major role in advising and supervising chapters. Because of a meaningful undergraduate experience, many alumni “give back” to their organization by volunteering as an advisor, regional or district officer, or board member. In addition, organizations maintain alumni associations or graduate chapters located throughout the nation to keep the lifetime commitment strong.
