WSU News
Briefs
Women’s basketball coach released
Washington State University Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced late
Tuesday the university is releasing women’s head basketball coach Jenny
Przekwas from her responsibilities. This year’s 2-27 season ends a
three-year losing streak at WSU. The Cougars lost 24 straight games to
finish the 2002 campaign.
Przekwas’ success at
Saint Francis (Penn.) proves her coaching ability, Sterk said.
"Unfortunately, she and her staff have not been able to recruit and
retain enough Pac-10 quality athletes to make WSU competitive within the
conference."
Sterk said Przekwas and
her assistants "are quality people who have done everything they
could to turn this program around, but unfortunately they have not been as
successful as we expect, or they desired."
