NCURA Regions VI & VII Spring Meeting

Coeur d'Alene Resort, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to the Inland Northwest!

In this part of the country, the phrase "going to The Lake" means more than just a holiday in the country. "The Lake" is a hideaway, a retreat where we go to recharge our mental batteries, explore new ways of looking at things, and share ideas with old friends and new acquaintances. Oh, yes, and have some fun.

The site of this year's meeting represents the epitome of a getaway retreat. Rising above the shimmering waters of the lake that is its namesake, the Coeur d'Alene Resort offers world class amenities with a comfortable, warm hospitality all its own. Indoors you can enjoy gourmet food and unique shopping, outdoors you can take in breathtaking scenery and some of the biggest skies you've ever seen.

The meeting kicks off with our fourth annual golf tournament Saturday morning, April 17, 1999. Many thanks to Hal Gollos and Jean Montano for organizing this event.

On Sunday we will have a full day of workshops. Each is a separate half day session so participants can choose one or two workshops. We have distinguished faculty who will provide workshops geared to the needs of everyone from the newcomer to the senior administrator. This is chance to update your information in specific areas of research administration and even improve your presentation skills.

Our meeting will open on Monday with a keynote address by Samuel H. Smith, President, Washington State University. Sixteen concurrent sessions comprise the program through Tuesday noon. We will end the meeting with a plenary session on Tuesday afternoon with four senior administrators addressing the current major issues in research administration, and engaging participants in that discussion. It should be a terrific opportunity to ask questions!

Registration can be done by mail or electronically, and please make sure to book your hotel reservations soon - our room rates are available only until March 17. Be sure to check the Regional web page for any late breaking meeting news.

I look forward to seeing you at "The Lake".

Sincerely,

Carol Zuiches
Chair, Region VI
