Informational Letter from SSA

The attached letter is being sent to some of our former employees by the Social Security Administration when they review your W2 form and find no social security earnings have been withheld. It is informational only. There is nothing you need to do. If you were a research associate or teaching associate enrolled in 10 or more credit hours a semester you are not required to pay social security tax while on WSU payroll. Likewise most students regularly enrolled in classes at WSU are not subject to contributing to social security. Lastly, some international scholars with F-1 or J-1  immigration status are not required to pay social security taxes.
