1892 - Present
1892
"The
College Record" launches in February 1892 as the
first student publication on campus. The monthly's first four-page
edition was printed on satin. It went under in April 1893.
It is edited by W.D. Barkhuff.
1895
The Evergreen makes its debut in March 1895 as a monthly 12-page
paper.
1899
The Chinook yearbook is first published and has been published
every year except one since then.
The Evergreen goes weekly.
1906
Evergreen staff members using good money management are able
to end the year with $500 in the black. They decide
to buy the "Evergreen Fountain" for installation
at the southwest corner of Bryan Hall.
1920
A new campus publication, The Glebe, is produced as a monthly
calendar of events magazine. Its name is soon changed to the
"Cougar's Paw" humor magazine and it is published
four times a year.
The Evergreen begins publishing twice a week.
1922
Students now begin receiving The Evergreen three times a week.
Also, student media goes high-tech with the addition of the
first campus radio station, KFAE, launching Dec. 22, 1922.
Its name would be later changed to KWSC in 1926.
