In the fall of 1996, VWSU was focused on supporting curricular transformation, and technology integration. Through attention toward the anticipated legislated Biennium Technology Funding and through the management of the Boeing RFP (96-3-1) process, the ongoing Microsoft and Asymetrix awards, and the aspiration towards hosting several seminars and workshops; VWSU attempted to act as a facilitator. To provide this facilitation and to provide insights about the practices and programs of other institutions, several white papers were posted at this Webspace. Also as the VWSU Initative gained attention, the VWSU Steering Committee Meeting Minutes were posted to provide insights into the procedures VWSU was using to probe the community for emergent issues and support. Externally, this site garnered the interest of several other institutions and corporations. |

In the Spring of 1997, VWSU facilitated discussions about Student Access, (one of the most important issues the university faces), Classroom/Lab outfitting and use, and coordinated student interface systems. It completed its commitment toward the Boeing RFP process. With the Washington State Legislatures' failure to fund our "technology infrastructure" initiative, VWSU explored possibilities and roles for itself in assisting the community deal with needs and mandates with few resources. |

During the summer of 1997, VWSU explored and attempted to anticipate the emerging issues that would confront the university with regards to online learning. As a strategic planning operation VWSU attempted to describe what "Meaningful and Substantial Progress" would look like with respect to WSU's shift toward the use of online learning environments. Also attention was given toward what types of "Measurable and Specific Improvements" would be possible in the coming years. As these planning processes continue VWSU will continue to shape its agenda to fit the needs of this university and state. |

In the Fall of 1997 Virtual WSU focused on the continued production and support of curriculum development projects and their evaluation. Several exciting projects were brought to completion and several others were showing promising progress. Visits to Educom97 and other international conferences assured us that WSU was a leader in using technology in teaching as well as football. (Congratulations Cougar Football!) This fall, Virtual WSU continued to facilitate infrastructure coordination and policy research. As more and more of the teaching within the WSU system is becoming more and more technologically enhanced, and with more and more of the colleges and units assuming more and more of the responsibility for teaching with technology; more and more of the Virtual WSU goals have been met. A sense of shift has been detected within the university culture towards a commitment to teaching with technology. This is good news for the Virtual WSU initiative and for the university as a whole. |
