Bylaws for the WSU AgTM Club
Article I: Membership Section 1. Membership is open to any student attending Washington State University.
Article II: Elections Section 1. A candidate must have been a member for at least one year prior to running for any office. Section 2. A president candidate must have held an office in the club prior to running for president. Section 3. If no officer candidates come forward, the office can be appointed to any member by the current officers. Section 4. Members can nominate themselves or other members for any office for a period of two weeks prior to elections. Section 5. President nominations will be narrowed down to two candidates by the current officer team for a final vote by the members. Section 6. One can only run twice for president and only hold a max two year term. Section 7. All officers will be elected at the last business meeting each spring. Section 8. Officers will be chosen by a written ballot election of simple majority. Section 9. The club advisor must be at the meeting during elections to vote in case of a tie. Section 10. There will be one president, one business VP, one recreation VP, one secretary VP, one treasurer VP, and one CAHNRS VP.
Article III: Officer Duties President- This member oversees the overall operation of the club and ensures that all activities and events are completed in a satisfactory manor. The president is also responsible for contacting company representatives to bring in guest speakers. In addition to these responsibilities the president is also required to send thank you letters to company representatives and event sponsors. The mailbox in the club advisor’s office should be checked on a regular basis by the president unless delegated to another club member. Vice Presidents: There are five positions that are all seen as five vice presidents. These five positions are separated into specific names and positions to establish the best structure for the most successful leadership to run the club. Each vice president is equal to the others and all have an equal vote.
1) Secretary- This position will uphold the minutes of each meeting. This position also involves emailing club members and creating notifications (flyers) for meetings.
2) Treasure- This position is one that is very important to the club. The position requires one to establish a balance of the clubs account at all times and construct a layout and understanding of where our money is coming in from and where it is going out. At all meetings the treasurer is responsible for announcing the account balance to the club.
3) CAHNRS- This person’s job requires that they attend every CAHNRS meeting for our clubs vote, and also to relay what is going on in the college of agriculture to our officers and members.
4) Business- This position entitles this person to be in charge of all of the money making activities. They will oversee the frost tubes, plant sale, and all of the money making events that the club engages in. Activities may be delegated to willing club members but must be overseen by the business VP throughout the entire process.
5) Recreational- This position is one that requires an active person. This person will be in charge of setting up or running all of the recreational events our club engages in. The camping trips, ski trips, traps shoots, and more are the types of things they are responsible for being in charge of.
Article IV: Removal of Officers Section 1. An officer who fails in their duties by being absent without excuse from three consecutive regular business meetings, or who is perceived by their peers as having failed similarly (as shown by a two-thirds vote of the current officers or the club members-at-large), shall be removed from office.
Article V: Meetings Section 1. Club business meetings must be held at least two times a month to be determined by a simple majority vote of the members. Section 2. Business items must be moved and seconded, then passed by a simple majority vote of the members. Section 3. Amendments must be moved and seconded. Section 4. Business items can be moved to be appointed to a committee and seconded then passed by a simple majority vote. Section 5. The president has the right to appoint members to a committee.
Article VI: Advisor Section 1. The position of advisor(s) will be offered to one or more Washington State University faculty/staff members who have an interest or experience in agriculture or natural resources. Section 2. Qualifications for advisor will include a WSU faculty/staff member who has an interest in serving as an officer. Section 3. The duties of the advisor will be to offer advice and suggestions to members of the WSU AgTM Club.
