Multimedia Authoring: Exploring the New Rhetorics (DTC/Engl 355)

Teaches how rhetoric functions in multimodal environments, focuses primarily on digital texts and the ways that rhetors construct arguments through not only their word choices, but also through the use of images, sounds, arrangements, colors, shapes, sizes, and fonts.

  Explores the ways that design, that is the purposeful arrangement of parts or details, makes meaning. Students analyze and create texts with an eye on the rhetorical dimensions of design—that is, the ways in which design functions as an available means of persuasion.

Helped plan orientation for new GTIs, coordinated with Director to plan weekly meetings for teachers, facilitated in revising the Revisions class.

Assistant Director, Computers in Writing-Intensive Classrooms--Approaches to Integrating Computers (CIWIC-AIC) Summer Institute, Michigan Technological University, Houghton, MI, 2002-2004

 

Coordinated with Associate Director to plan schedule for international workshop, assisted in creating preparatory materials, consulted with participants on the creation of projects, ran HTML and MOO sessions, and created and maintained website.


Assistant to the Director of Graduate Studies, 2001-2002

 

Helped recruit students, worked on department web page, planned student visits to MTU, and assisted Director with day to day activities.

UN2001 Graduate Student Instructor Representative for General Education Committee at MTU, 2003-2004

 

Explored General Education requirements for all Michigan Tech students, examined the role of the four core courses within the General Education structure.

PhD Representative for Undergraduate STC Steering Committee at MTU, 2001-2002

 

Created new brochure for Liberal Arts degree at MTU, examined course requirements for majors.

MS Representative for MS Restructuring Committee at MTU 2001

 

Researched similar MS programs around the country, explored job potential for MS students, and wrote recommendation to RTC Steering Committee for future path of MTU’s MS degree.
