About the Course

English 402.04 online will be offered in Summer Session 1 (May 5-June 13, 2008). This course will be conducted entirely online through elearning.wsu.edu and e-mail; you do not need to be in Pullman this summer to take the course.

Office Hours

I will be available on campus for selected office hours, for those who are on campus or in town. Students can also contact me online.

Syllabus and Textbook

The syllabus is available here: http://www.wsu.edu/~campbelld/engl402/sched402su08.htm.

The only textbook for this course will be Kennedy and Montgomery's Solving Problems at Work (custom edition). It should be available used as well as new. ISBN: 0-536-43060-8. The previous version should also work, since it has the same content and page numbers.

You can order it online here: http://www.wsubookie.net/.

Instead, we will be using online sources and the "Key to Comments" page for explanations of grammar. You should print a copy for reference.

Technical Requirements.

Since this is an online course, you must have a WSU Network ID account that allows you to access WebCT. In addition, your computer needs to be powerful enough and your Internet connection stable and fast enough to enable you to access WebCT. Accessing WebCT if you have only a dial-up connection may not work well, but if you have a high-speed connection, there should be no problem.

This is not a DDP course, so there are no mechanisms for turning in paper versions of assignments by postal mail; everything will be turned in electronically. If this won't work for you, or if you will not have internet access during some part of the six weeks, choose one of the classroom-based sections of the course instead.

How the Course Works

You will be able to access the assignments for each week by clicking on the appropriate link on the Course Menu in WebCT: Week 1, Week 2, and so forth.

Assignments are due on Tuesdays and Fridays by 5 p.m. Each week's assignments will include reading chapters from the textbook, reading the lectures posted online, completing two postings for the discussion board, and completing a writing assignment.
