Services and Infrastructure:
The WSU Bioinformatics Core is a multidisciplinary service center
that assists research projects in bioinformatics and allied fields
such as genomics and proteomics. As part of the Center for Integrated
Biotechnology and Center for Reproductive Biology, the Bioinformatics
Core will foster faculty research collaborations and operate a Bioinformatics
User Lab for WSU researchers.
The Bioinformatics Core facility provides investigators with centralized
genomics and proteomics data storage and analysis. The Core consists
of secure high performance servers and storage devices linked to
the Genomics and Proteomics Cores. The data generated by these core
facilities is stored and analyzed on the bioinformatics core central
servers. The individual users can also link to central servers in
order to upload/download their data for analysis from/to local terminals.
Bioinformatics Core services are accessible through the WSU bioinformatics
web site. The web site serves as a centralized hub (web-based client/server
interfaces) with links to the servers, software packages, WWW mirror
sites for DNA/protein analysis and licensed DNA/Protein/microarray
analysis software packages.
Services:
The Bioinformatics Core will provide the following services:
Consulting - Providing support to investigators' biological data
acquisition, management and analysis needs.
Bioinformatics application programming - Design and implementation
of relational databases and applications.
Data analysis –Proteomics and microarray data analysis,
DNA/RNA and protein sequence and statistical analysis and storage.
The following software will be made available through centralized
servers:
* Genet (Silicon Genetics) - capture and storage of microarray
data from Genomics and Proteomics Cores (100 nodes available)
* Limited version of GeneSpring on Server
* 4 copies of full function GeneSpring on each terminal
* Genesiffter.net- 5-7 floating licenses
* Array analysis software with remote access (TM4 package from TIGR,
cluster, gene expression etc.)
* Flat file storage and share facility through Genet (working on
acquiring Oracle DBM)
* BLAST Server
* PRINTS
* COG (Clusters of orthologus groups for phylogenetic classification)
* BCM Search Launcher Batch Client
* Assembler (large scale assembly of EST’s BAC’s and
small genomes)
* GCG package (accelrys): Wisconsin Package Support - Installation
and maintenance for various software packages under Linux, Windows,
or Mac platforms. Training software users.
Data Storage and backup: Providing storage for the databases
and data-intensive projects.
LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems): Provide
on-line access to data management and services to researchers on
the network. LIMS will also integrate experimental design, data
and analysis from Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics Cores
(currently LIMS services will be handled through Genet)
