14. "Brihaspati": a character in the Mahabharata. There is a historical Brihaspati, not the one referred to here, who was one of the foundational thinkers in the Carvaka, or materialist school of Indian philosophy. Brihaspati or Carvaka philosophy attempts to explain phenomena in the universe only in terms of material reality; Carvaka is one of the most condemned heterodox philosophies of Hinduism.
