Footnotes

1. In Hinduism, cosmic time is measured in kalpas which each last 12,000 divine years; each divine year is 360 human years, making one kalpa 4,320,000 human years. Each kalpa has four distinct ages, or yuga: Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali, (four, three, two, one) which refer to the four types of possibilities on the Indian dice. The ages decline from a golden age (Krita) to an age of degeneracy (Kali yuga); human lifespan similarly declines. We are in the Kali age of the current kalpa; the Kali age is one of dark inertia with very short (100 years) human life-spans.
