9. Soma is a juice from the soma plant, the most significant plant in ancient Indian religion. It is the nourishment of the gods and so is poured over sacrificial fires. A similar cult of the soma plant , called Haoma, exists among the Persian Zoroastrians. We do not know, however, what the original soma plant was but it is speculated that the plant had hallucinogenic properties.
