koken
One of the most disorienting sights for Westerners on the Noh, kabuki or joruri stage is the presence of stage hands; this is a common sight in most Asian theater including Chinese opera. This stage assistant works on stage and in full view of the audience, straightening costumes and wigs, moving scenery, and performing costume transformations (in kabuki).
