Erica Austin

- Interim Director & professor, Edward R. Murrow School of Communication, Washington State University.
- Director, Consortium for the Study of Communication and Decision Making, 2002-present.
- Research focus:
- Media literacy, family communication and health issues. She has advised a number of organizations nationwide as well as the federal government on the development and evaluation of media literacy curricula.
- Media in decision making and social development. In particular, she studies the interplay of media and parental influences in children's decisions about health, politics and social reality.
- Political decision making and disaffection among adults.
- Recipient of the 2001 Krieghbaum Under-40 Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Many of her publications and projects include student as coauthors and collaborators.
- B.A. in Journalism with an emphasis in the arts from the George Washington University, Washington D.C., and her masters and doctoral degrees, in communication research, from Stanford University. She teaches public relations management and campaign design, health communication and social development, and other courses in communication theory and communication science.
