Participation

Individual, 200 points

Due to the interactive nature of the class and the emphasis on collaborative discussion and activities, attendance is crucial.  Students are expected to come to class on a regular basis and to be prepared to participate in class activities.  Failing to be prepared for or participate in more than two classes for the semester will result in a lowering of the "Participation" portion of the grade. There are many ways to participate, from talking in class to assisting presenters to supporting your groups. If you need alternative ways to participate, or if you would like your instructor to know your preferred way(s) to participate, please speak with your instructor early in the semester.

Your participation will be evaluated with the following general rubric. Each category is worth 20 points:

• Reflection
• Did you reflect before you spoke or wrote? Did you integrate unit readings, resources, and activities? Did you get to the point?

• Quality of participation
• Did your participation add something to the discussion or class? Was your participation on task? Did your participation show that you were an active listener?

• Quantity of participation
• Did your participation show that you had done the readings, understood the issues, and were actively engaged in class activities? (This includes the reading review homework)

• Attitude
• Were you a positive and supportive participant?

• Professionalism
• Was your participation professional at all times? Refer to the PDE form and the “Responsibilities” section of the syllabus for more information
