| The diagram shows "stocks" to represent the accumulation of new generating projects in various stages of development. The "flows" represent the movement of projects from one stage to the next. Most of the projects are combined cycle, gas fired units, sometimes called CCGTs. These are highly efficient units which might require around 6,800 BTU of natural gas for each kwh of electricity generation. Click on the number of MW for a list of projects reported in Summer of 2000. (You may also click on each of the "stocks" in the diagram.) | ![]()

| Simple cycle units are not listed here. These units do not include a recuperator or steam generator, so they might consume around 9,100 BTU of natural gas for each kwh of electricity generation. These units are often called CTs or "peaking units." They can be constructed much more quickly, and their review may be placed on a fast track. | This website was constructed in Feb 2001 using CEC Website information from January 25, 2001 and from August of 2000.
