The opening screen of the flight simulator is shown below. The model
comes with its own instructions and numerous buttons to move from screen
to screen as you experiment with the model. Look for the finger in the image
below -- it is pointed at the "priorities" button. Assigning your
own weights to each of the 5 goals is usually the first step in using the
flight simulator.

The Idagon Flight simulator is similar to the simulators in chapters 20
and 21 of the book. It is designed for interactive experimentation by teams
of students. You should begin your experiments with the short-run model
with the 48 month simulation period. This model simulates the "ups-and-downs"
over a 4 year period, and you'll become familiar with the operation of the
reservoirs. When you've mastered the short-run model, turn to the model
with the 480 month simulation period. You'll see the same "ups-and-downs"
as before, but they will be superimposed on long term trends. The long term
model provides the same set of controls on reservoir operations plus additional
controls on development of irrigated land and the efficiency of irrigation.
