RESPONSIBILITY
The Center for Human Rights (CHR) administers the procedures to search for faculty and administrative professional personnel.
Follow the advisory guidelines regarding the search process which are available from the CHR Search Committee Information web site. Go to:

Human Resource Services (HRS) processes the Personnel Action Form and maintains the personnel file.
FACULTY COMPOSITION
Faculty includes employees who are appointed to faculty positions and perform academic, extension, library, and student affairs duties in accordance with the Faculty Manual. The Faculty Manual is available at the Faculty Senate website:
ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONAL COMPOSITION
Administrative professional personnel include employees who perform administrative, managerial, professional, research, public service, and/or extension responsibilities and are exempted from the provisions of Washington Administrative Code Title 357. (See RCW 41.06.070.)

POSITION CONTROL
Create new positions (permanent or temporary) and change appointments in accordance with position control procedures. See 58.01.
RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION
Before filling any vacancy, complete the Authorization to Recruit Faculty and Administrative Professional Personnel. To obtain copies of the form, complete and/or print the PDF master on 60.11.5.

Before a department initiates a search or fills a vacancy for an adminstrative professional position, Human Resource Services must review the position description.
Applicant Self-Identification
Send each applicant an Applicant Self-Identification postcard immediately upon receipt of an application. The postcard is available at Central Stores; item number 47951.

Expenses
Expenses associated with searches for faculty and administrative professional personnel and the relocation reimbursement for these new employees are charged to employing units.
Departments are to contact Purchasing Services and Travel Services for recruitment and relocation expense specifics, including cost and weight limits. See 70.60 and 95.14.
OFFICIAL OFFER
Faculty
The Provost makes the University's official offer for tenure-track faculty positions. See 60.10 for information about delegation of appointing authority.
The offer is normally sent by letter. The Provost's Office provides letter templates to deans' offices.
Administrative Professional
The appointing authority approved by the President makes the official offer for administrative professional positions. See 60.10 for information about delegation of appointing authority.

The appointing authority normally sends offer to the candidate by letter. HRS provides letter templates to the hiring department. The hiring department retains a copy of the letter.
To consummate the agreement, the hiring department requests acceptance in writing.
APPOINTMENT
Faculty
For faculty, reproduce the Biographical Data Sheet from 60.13.2. Route a Personnel Action Form and a completed Biographical Data Sheet with at least three letters of recommendation used during the selection process. See 60.25 for instructions for completing and routing the Personnel Action Form.

Administrative Professional Employees
For an administrative professional (AP) employee, route a Personnel Action Form and a copy of the resume submitted by the applicant. See 60.25 to complete and route the Personnel Action Form.
Prior to extending a formal offer, the department may choose to conduct a minimum of three telephone reference interviews or request three letters of reference.
If reference checks are made by telephone, follow the advisory guidelines for conducting telephone interviews and the interviewing techniques outlined in the CHR Search Committee Information web site. Go to:

Maintain a copy of all references in the candidate's department file.
