Plant Services--Heavy Equipment
335-9088
POLICY
Heavy Equipment in Facilities Operations' Plant Services division provides a no-cost service for minor moves. The purpose of this service is to assist University departments with small jobs related to moving office furniture, equipment, and supplies. This service is intended for departments which are not equipped to take care of such moves without assistance. Departments are not required to use the service.
Limitations
Minor moves service:
- Is limited to six hours labor per move;
- Must not require the use of motorized equipment;
- Must not be part of a larger project;
- Must not involve another Facilities Operations service shop.
Other Moving Services
Heavy Equipment also provides moving services which do not fall into the definition of minor moves. (See "Limitations" above.) In such cases, Heavy Equipment charges requesting departments for the cost of services.
Requests
Departments submit requests for minor moves and other moving services through the myFacilities website or by contacting Plant Services Administration; telephone 335-9088. Access the myFacilities website at:
NOTE: The requester must use the Internet Explorer browser version 5.0 or higher in order to submit project requests through this website.
Requirement
All minor moves must be approved and scheduled by Plant Services Administration.
Estimates
Heavy Equipment provides estimates for moving services. Heavy Equipment determines whether or not the work qualifies as a no-cost minor move. If the work is not a minor move, Heavy Equipment requires that the department pay for the cost of moving.
CHARGEABLE MOVING SERVICES
WSU Service Units
Moving materials and equipment to or from WSU service units; e.g., Surplus Stores, Central Receiving; is not considered to be a minor move. Heavy Equipment provides moving services to and from WSU service units and charges the requesting department.
Laboratory Equipment
Heavy Equipment provides laboratory moving services. However, since laboratory equipment must be decontaminated prior to being moved, laboratory equipment does not qualify for the no-cost minor moves service. The requesting department is responsible for the cost of moving laboratory equipment.
Laboratories and laboratory equipment are considered to be contaminated until documentation of hazard evaluation and decontamination is completed and approved. See 20.77 and SPPM S80.77.
Contact Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and/or the Radiation Safety Office for hazard evaluation and decontamination assistance.
