WSU has made, and will continue to make, every effort to eliminate barriers to equal opportunity encountered by these protected group members and to improve opportunities available to underrepresented groups. The following are specific goals within this policy:

- WSU will continue to recruit, hire, train, and promote individuals in all job classifications based upon their qualifications and ability or potential ability to carry out the duties of the job, and shall consider race/ethnicity, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, use of trained guide dog or service animal by a disabled person, specially disabled veteran, veteran of the Vietnam era, recently separated veteran, and other protected veteran status only when consistent with the law.
- WSU is committed to take affirmative action to increase the employment of American Indians/Alaskan Natives, Asians/Pacific Islanders, Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, women, persons age 40 and over, persons with disabilities, specially disabled veterans, veterans of the Vietnam era, recently separated veterans, and other protected veterans where there is underutilization. Numerical goals are set for affected class members in those job groups or areas where the University has determined that underutilization exists. The University will make every good faith effort consistent with the law to meet these goals and will review progress on an annual basis.
- All other personnel actions such as compensation, benefits, layoffs, return from layoffs, terminations, University-sponsored training, education, tuition waivers, and social and recreational programs will be administered without regard to race/ethnicity, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, use of a trained guide dog or service animal by a disabled person, or whether a specially disabled veteran, veteran of the Vietnam era, recently separated veteran, and other protected veteran status.
