Finnigan MAT IRMS

The GeoAnalytical Laboratory houses a Finnigan Delta S gas source isotope ratio mass spectrometer for measurement of oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and nitrogen isotope ratios in geologic materials. The facility includes a laser fluorination line for extraction of oxygen from silicate and oxide minerals, and a continuous flow gas bench for measuring the carbon and oxygen ratios of carbonate minerals and the oxygen ratio of water samples. Hydrogen and nitrogen ratios can be measured for gas samples. Currently we cannot provide isotope ratio analyses as a service, but special projects and/or access to the intrument can be arranged through Dr. Peter Larson.
