Go through magazines, art books, the web (whatever source you like) and locate an image that you feel best represents your sense of home. Bring the image to class with a one page, typed (single or double spaced, but use 12 or less font) commentary on why you chose the particular image (10 points).

For example, if you were Jill Ker Conway, author of The Road from Coorain ( a story about growing up in Australia), or a survivor of the dust bowl, you might regard the work of Alexandre Hogue (American Regionalist Painter, 1898-1994) as reminiscent of home.

Students will present their image and talk to the class (2 +minutes). Questions are encouraged. This assignment is designed to help us learn something about one another. Not everyone will be able to produce the image in a jpg or gif format, but if you have the know-how, send me the image in an email attachment by Wednesday evening and I will compile a student index and place it online. In this case, we can use the technology available in the classroom to project viewable images on the big screen. Eventually, everyone will provide a web-compatible image--either by scanning the image or otherwise--to place on this student index. And of course, the index will include your one page discussion.
