The photograph above shows the D. H. Lawrence Memorial at the Kiowa Ranch near Taos, New Mexico. He first saw the ranch in 1922 and he and Frieda lived there in 1924 and 1925. Frieda lived there for a number of years after his death. It was the only property the Lawrences ever owned. Today it is owned by the University of New Mexico. In the essay "New Mexico" Lawrence wrote:
I think New Mexico was the greatest experience from the outside world that I have ever had. It certainly changed me for ever. . . . In the magnificent fierce morning of New Mexico one sprang awake, a new part of the soul woke up suddenly, and the old world gave way to a new . . . .
The DHLSNA is interested in D. H. Lawrence and all his works--poetry, fiction, drama, essays, travel writing, literary criticism, painting, and letters; in scholarship on Lawrence; and in creative works inspired by Lawrence.
