Goals of Meeting

Surface failure and friction during tribological loading is a critical problem that affects the life and reliability of many important systems including mechanical machinery as well as our national energy usage.  The field of tribology is an interdisciplinary science that invokes knowledge and experience over an extremely wide range of size and time scales.  Improved instrumentation, computer simulations, and our basic knowledge of physical and chemical principles offer opportunities to advance the field of tribology both scientifically and for technological applications.  We will examine a number of tribological systems with emphasis on both fundamental issues of wear, friction, and lubrication as well as significant technological advancements.  We anticipate a lively and provocative meeting where we will strongly encourage discussion and efficient exchange of new ideas.

All attendees are encouraged and invited to present a poster on their current research.  If time permits, we will repeat our “Light Speed” oral poster preview presentations, likely to be chaired by that likable guy, Trevor Page.

Note:  All talks include ~10 minutes for Discussion
