Research Areas:

Application of Satellite Remote Sensing Data for CP3:    Visit our discussion of the use of
AVHRR satellite imagery and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for creating a land
use (vegetative cover) map for the Columbia  PM-10 Plateau Project (CP3) modeling
effort:  Remote Sensing Analysis for CP3.   For  more background on CP3 visit the

Radiometry for Characterization of Dust Events of the Inland Northwest:  This project
involves analysis of data collected by 1) a ground-based solar radiometer and 2) the
AVHRR instrument on the polar orbitting NOAA-14 environmental observing satellite.
Analysis of the solar radiometer data using Harrison's objective algorithm for Langley
regressions results in optical thicknesses which characterize background aerosol levels
for the CP3 domain during cloud free periods of relatively high atmospheric stability.
