The Lange laboratory investigates pathways leading to natural products (with an emphasis on terpenoids) using functional genomics and systems biology approaches. We study plant metabolism as an interacting network of biochemical reactions by taking advantage of recent and continuing advances in analytical chemistry and computational biology. We are developing mathematical models to quantitatively describe the regulation of metabolic pathways, thus enabling knowledge-based approaches for pathway improvements by metabolic engineering.
