Denny Schrock will be Chair-Elect for 2001-2002. The group also decided against an oral session at the 1999 ASHS
meeting. Instead, the working group will have a colloquium in 2000.
The colloquium will focus on all practical aspects of people-plant
research. The session will highlight how horticulture activities/commodities
affect people's attitude, behaviors, and personality. The group proposed
that the colloquium involve working groups from all areas as co-sponsors.
For the development of the colloquium, three members will coordinate
the session: Jennifer Bradley, Denny Schrock, and Susan Hamilton. ABSTRACT: The effect of horticulture
and horticultural commodities on people's physical health, attitude, behaviors,
and personality. The aesthetic and nutritional benefits of horticulture to our society have long been known. Just recently, however, we are beginning to document the valuable role that people/plant interactions have on all aspects of people's lives. Communication and sharing of information between various industry, commodity, and sociological researchers must be explored to continue to establish substantial research in this area. This colloquium is designed to allow discussion of people/plant research that is being conducted across a broad spectrum of disciplines and will focus on the practical aspects of people/plant research. Areas of discussion will be provided by various working group divisions including research, extension, industry, and human issues in horticulture. |
